SONS OF THE DAY - KEEPING THE TRADITION ALIVE

Harrisonburg, VA Fall, 2004 - The Shenandoah Valley may once again claim to be a source of high-quality a cappella singing.  Since the introduction of the Harmonia Sacra in 1822 by Shenandoah Valley native Joseph Funk, the area has fostered the development of such groups as The Shenandoah Valley Choral Society and The Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir, as well as yearly musical events such as The Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival, and The Shenandoah Valley Music Festival.  Following in the footsteps of those before it, a new group has emerged on the Valley's music scene.

Sons of the Day, an all-male a cappella singing group based in Harrisonburg, VA, was founded in the fall of 2003 by two young men with the hopes of keeping alive the rich musical heritage of the Valley.  Matthew Hunsberger and Clay Showalter, co-founders of the group, indicate their commitment to furthering the tradition of a cappella music declaring in the group's mission statement that they hope to "Explore cultures of a cappella singing from various eras and genres..." and "Offer educational opportunities to those interested in continuing the tradition of a cappella music."  Another part of the group's mission is to provide an opportunity for ministry as the group seeks to "Present the gospel in an approachable way by combining songs of faith and everyday life..."

Sons of the Day has sung in a wide variety of settings since it's inception in November of 2003 and is available to sing at events ranging from church services, civic events, corporate events, weddings, and a host of occasions in between.
