Singers
Jon Leichty
Baritone, Harrisonburg, VA
Jon has always had a passion for music but didn't always know it while growing up. At a young age he began to play the snare drum. After several years, he progressed to playing the drum set and by his sophomore year, feeling somewhat accomplished with drums, he decided that they weren't enough and picked up some guitar playing on his own. One thing that Jon felt pretty strongly against was singing in the choir in high-school. "Singing was for the geeks in school," he said. With a little coaxing from his mom, however, he decided to join the choir as a freshman in high school.
Skipping ahead, Jon spent the first two years of his college experience at Hesston College where he sang with the Bel Canto Singers for the two years he attended. He also was part of Hesston's European Chorale that traveled throughout Europe for the month of May in 2002, giving about 15 concerts and enjoying new faces and cultures. According to Jon, "The time I spent with the two choirs at Hesston were some of the most nurturing and rewarding experiences of my life."
Jon graduated in 2004 from Eastern Mennonite University and immediately began working at EMU in the Information Systems Department. He says working at EMU was an amazing choice because that is where he met his wife, Kim.
